Our neighbors in the Koreatown/Westlake area see our steeple as the center of the neighborhood. First Unitarian works in conjunction with Urban Partners Los Angeles to offer several programs designed to serve our community including education, food assistance, exercise, and community-building.
Every Saturday from 8-10am, volunteers distribute groceries free of charge to our neighbors in need. The food is provided through Hope Net.
Saturdays and Sundays from 10am-12pm. These free classes teach basic math skills to children in the surrounding neighborhood. Classes are conducted by volunteers from the church and led by First Unitarian member, Sean Gabe.
Tuesday through Friday evenings, in the basement gym at First Unitarian, neighborhood women gather for an aerobics workout and Zumba dancing! The fun starts at 6:00 p.m., and the cost per session is $2.
Periodically, Urban Partners offers field trips in partnership with the Sierra Club to destinations around the Los Angeles area, like Bolsa Chica Wetlands, the Museum of Natural History, and Malibu Canyon State Park. Neighborhood children have an opportunity not only to explore an area beyond their neighborhood but also to learn from Sierra Club guides about wildlife. And they have fun, too!
